I don't really see someone swiping it from the little bucket. You watch it go in and watch it go out. At least at every airport I have ever been to. My wallet has metal on it and it has to go through the machine. And I have never had a problem. And if you are really concerned put it inside a change purse that has a metal clasp. That should be big enough to prevent theft.
