I just did something similar a week or so ago.

Sometimes you just know it was them being a dopey kid, busy or having too much fun. Young woman, probably 18 or 20 backed out of the parking place (Christmas shopping) too quickly without looking and hit my legs. I saw it at the last moment and moved so when she hit me it just spinned me around. Not a scratch or a bruise but she was hysterically weeping when she stopped. I knew she had learned, I was not hurt and I'll bet you $1000.00 she never, ever backs out without looking at least twice.

You were not quite so lucky, you had damage. Still, sometimes it is just a life lesson to give. I am certain there are others who will not agree but I think you did the decent thing.

It all depends on their reaction. If they don't seem to care or they are drinking and messing around then they need a harder lesson.
