a strong sense of internal consistency--the whole milieu may be farfetched or even wildly alternative, but it has to make sense in and of itself, given its own "rules."

For example, I could buy that plastic surgery scars heal super-fast in the Nip/Tuck alternate reality, if only they didn't use the normal ("real-world") slower healing, normal side effects and normal risks as such a recurring plot device (for example, the whole Jill Clayburgh story arc, or virtually every pre-op consult in every episode).

But the resoloution of the Carver story line is a different beast altogether. It just plain didn't make sense. That plot line was obviously not planned. It just happened and the "resolution" they cobbled together is so full of plot holes that it is just ludicrous.
