I'm convinced that the Internet brings out both the best and worst in people.

In the period of 1998 to 2000, I participated in a movie review exchange on Usenet. The barbs were terrific -- people heckled and swore and pointed fingers. I finally left the group. Sometimes on the IMDB (the Internet Movie Database), this sort of thing occurs in the poorly-moderated forums section.

I really hope the DU isn't headed in that same direction. If the admins keep a firm grip, I think we'll be OK. Remember, there are unruly members in any group this large. And that doesn't even count the trolls!
