48. Well, if you're going to resort to ad hominem attacks...
Let's be civil and examine recent medical literature, shall we?

In the March 18, 2003 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine a study
conducted by Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston (part of Harvard Med School) was published. The researchers studied 1,624 women aged between 42 and 68 over 11 years.

The conclusion of the study: "Researchers observed no association between high protein intake and decline in kidney function in women with normally functioning kidneys." Easy to read summary:
http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2003/03.13/09-kidney.html

And in a BBC report on the same study, located at:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2859733.stm
the following quote can be found:
Elizabeth Ward, founder and president of the British Kidney Patient Association said: "If you have healthy kidneys, you can't eat enough protein to damage your kidneys.

As I said, healthy kidneys have nothing to fear from protein. The recommended level for athletic people doing weight training is 1g/per pound of lean body tissue, which is hardly excessive by any measure.

As for your other comments...I mentioned Hillary Swank as a example of someone gaining exactly the amount of weight the original poster wanted by doing two things: exercising and increasing protein intake.

And advertising? When and how, exactly? I mentioned a vendor for protein powder that's much less than the stuff sold at GNC etc. which other posters suggested. I have no commercial relationship with them other than as an occasional customer for run-of-the-mill whey protein powder, which I like to consume after lifting weights.
