That can happen whether it is done in court or privately. The trauma is caused when parents say stuff like "If your dad loved you more, he would gladly pay that money." or "Your mother is a money grubbing, b--ch." Since this is in the media, the kid probably will hear the statements. We don't know what is said to him in private though.
