If you haven't seen it, you've got to rent the film based on that event. It's called "Elvis meets Nixon" and it's hilarious.

That was the first time Elvis had ventured out of the Graceland compound on his own (I think there were a few Memphis Mafia guys tagging along, but no one to really hold his hand). He had lived such a sheltered life that he didn't know how to buy a plane ticket, and he had given all of the cash in his pocket to a soldier he met at the airport. Elvis was going to the WH to pick up a DEA badge that he had requested. Elvis had a thing for collecting law enformcent badges, particularly those that granted him actual powers. I think the DEA badge made him a real agent, though I'm not sure. Rich irony, either way.

As hard as it is to believe, the movie is mostly accurate, from what I've been able to gather.
