David Lean's Dr Zhivago.

I get goosebumps just typing that....

I finally got around to reading the book, and was astonished that I thought it was no greater than the film, or to be frank, not as magnificent, in my humble opinion. (I have read only the English translation, not the original Russki)

There was a "Masterpiece Theatre" remake some months ago, which one would think would be great, but it was a puny farce compared to Lean's magnificent achievement.

Other examples of great adaptations -- such as Kubrick's Barry Lyndon, and even the recent LOTR, and of course Lean's Lawrence of Arabia is another masterpiece.

I guess I am in too good of a mood tonight (it is my birthday and I am drunk on wine) to think of bad films. I'm sure I'll think of some in the morning.
