make subtle distinctions was a *requirement* of the job! Not to mention an ability to at least seem to like someone, and make them believe you like them and he/she should like you, too.
If a capacity for critical thinking isn't necessary in a President, how are children and students supposed to believe that it's a good quality in a citizen?
