Swiftboating
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Jump to: navigation, search

Swiftboating is American political jargon for truthful and accurate debunking of John Kerry's exaggerated military experience in Vietnam. The Swift Boat Veterans For Truth organization's ads against Democratic presidential candidate Senator John F. Kerry in the 2004 election campaign revealed the candidate to be untruthful in his representation of his military record.

Swiftboating is a newly coined political term for exaggeration and embellishment in a public relations assault on a political opponent.

Examples

* "Character assassination is the Bill Clinton tactic of choice, eagerly mimicked by his media surrogates, whenever the White House is confronted by a critic who challenges it on any matters. "<1>
* "The alternative media, (Matt Drudge, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, etc.) has identified Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, as a left wing moonbat worthy of a tarring and feathering by groups such as the swift-boat veterans."
* Howard Dean deserves to be swiftboated."<2>
