Let's remind ourselves that there were no terrorists in Iraq until the US military destroyed the government and border security of that country which had no capability to attack the US and also had no connection to terrorist attacks on this country.

I'm sure you swallow the administration story that anyone fighting the US military in Iraq is a terorist.
A more reasoned interpretation is that those people who fight the US in Iraq are people who want the US out of Iraq. If we weren't THERE they would have no motivation to fight us.

There is absolutely no logic behind the premise that having our military in Iraq prevents the movers and shakers of the terrorist universe from staging an event in this country.
It sure didn't protect the Brits.
