12. You're wrong - the turnout is not huge
2000 turnout:
11,141,740 of 15,707,307 for 71%

2003 turnout as it stands now without the absentee ballots
7,666,002 of 15,380,536 for 49.8%

even if you add 2 million absentee ballots you'll end up with 63% turnout

While the GOP turned out to the polls in similar propotions to the 2000 vote, the Dems failed to match them. I posted in another thread that the Dem strongholds failed miserably in their GOTV effort. It is almost unbelieveble - 52% in SF, 49% in LA, 55% in Alameda.

And here comes the question about the Dem tactic from the beginning:

Should Davis have resigned when it became clear that there will be enough votes collected for the recall?
Should someone other than Bustamante was on the ballot?
Should Davis have run this sort of campaign?

The bottom line is that dem voters obviously didn't find a good enough reason to go to the polls.

2004 will be another story. Bush is not AS. He is not a movie star. He is pro life, anti gay, far right republican piece of shit.
