19. In 1979 in Guyana, "Reverend" Jim Jones told thousands of his followers
that the end of the world was upon them. They had had dress rehearsals for this event. They got in lines, marched up, and drank Dixiecups of Koolaid because he told them to. And it was just Koolaid. Until the day that it was the end of the world because he told them it was and they believed him without question. And this time the Koolaid had cyanide in it. The infants who couldn't swallow the Koolaid had injections of the poison instead. And they all drank it without question. And they lay down and died. Thousands of them. Jim Jones didn't drink the Koolaid. He shot himself in the head.

Hope that gives you historical and cultural allusions.
