I can tell you that my family in Baghdad -- certainly no fans of Saddam and his ilk -- would prefer a brutal dictator to the chaos that rules the country now. Even during the bleakest days of war with Iran, they at least had water and electricity. Not now. And they knew they could walk to the market/school/work, etc. without worrying about being blown to pieces. Add to that the rise of religious fundamentalists harassing the population, and a trigger-happy occupying army, and Iraq is beyond lost.
