Because so many people seem to complain about vegetarians harrassing them over their diet, yet I as a vegetarian would never do such a thing and I cant remember any of the other vegetarians I know ever having done so either. I'm sure some vegetarians are self-righteous jerks, but thats because, well, they're jerks- not because they're vegetarian. But on the other hand, plenty of meat eaters are happy to insult vegetarians (usually, in the case of male vegetarians, by questioning their masculinity, which I've always found perplexing)- but that still doesn't make me want to make abusive generalisations about meat-eaters.
