When ParaNet Continuum Radio Program began syndication in April 1994, it was designed to expand ParaNet's BBS as well as provide entertainment and an educational forum in which to scrutinize often-hyped UFO and paranormal phenomena. ParaNet broadcast from 1994 through May 1999. The topics that we covered included UFOs, alleged alien abductions, government cover-ups, hoaxes and frauds, future science and other interesting and unexplained phenomena. The ParaNet Continuum Radio Program rapidly became known as the "60 Minutes of UFOlogy". However, as the program grew in scope, so did the investigative task and the awareness of our responsibility to research and present information free of as much editorializing and personal bias as possible. To further compound the task, we at ParaNet had to find a balance between entertainment and yellow journalism, and telling the public what sometimes was neither easy nor entertaining. Yet, we found that niche. And, we did it very well.
During our years of research and investigation, we have become aware of the absence of in-depth treatment of the unexplained by the main stream media. No doubt, all of us have questioned at times just how much is left out of the news, and how the news has been fabricated to reflect various agendas as well as cover political intrigue. Every thinking person should question the assumption they are getting the "facts" and the "truth" from the major media outlets of television, radio and newspapers, and ask: am I getting the truth in what I see on the six o’clock news and read in the daily papers? Most of you will agree that at the very least, the major media does not delve into the specifics behind any of the news that they report. In by-gone days, and in limited markets today, reporters did on the ground investigations that often took months, even years, in order to write the news. In this way, news is history, and is a significant element in our decision making process. In the media age of the 21st century, most reporters are entertainers, or "talking heads", reporting news written from major wire services and limited interviews with the cause celeb of the moment. Public opinion is dictated by what a very small number of global news markets want to tell you. Furthermore, we are not the only group of people who have tracked the decline of media integrity-Noam Chomsky, Michael Parenti, Ben Bagdikian and others have documented this dire journalistic situation for decades.
Though we left the airwaves due to circumstances beyond our control, we continued our weekly broadcasts via the Internet for the last several years. Our determination to report the truth has never waned. It is with this sense of commitment to plumb the deeper meaning of current events that led us to take a closer look.
Beginning in May 2002, a closer look debuted via ABC Satellite Services. This program will take a hard look at the relationships of power and the dynamics at play between political, economic and even spiritual forces that control our lives each and ever day. a closer look will scratch away the layers on a variety of timely and controversial topics.
So, whatever you think you know, join us as we take A Closer Look.
