94. I have no idea, but if it were to...
First of all, it would be supreme irony that the Republican Party, which first made a name for itself by putting up a tireless fight to preserve the Union in the face of a series of Southern secessions, finally alienated certain regions enough that secession began to happen once again (and really, if a state were to secede, do you think it would be because of the Democratic Party?).

But second, and more importantly, the so-called red states typically receive more in Federal aid than they pay in taxes. Imagine a split among red- and blue-state regions of the country which set up (for the sake of argument) two distinct Federal governments. The blue would almost immediately begin operating in surplus, while the red would just as immediately face a revenue crisis that would quite likely force its government to slash services and raise taxes. In short, it would be a boon to the blue and devestating to the red. Would YOU be interested in reunification after the dust settled and tempers cooled?
