12. I must disagree
Your warning is well-placed, but it's easy to lose hope when hope becomes treason to tyrants like the squatters in the White House. America won't fall because of the likes of George W. Bush and his dysfunctional peer group. But ... it will be a rough several years.

Really, this country has been thoroughly "tested" by tragedy only once, during the Civil War. WWII did almost no damage to America, in spite of the 200,000 soldiers we lost; McCarthyism ruined many careers, but most of its victims rebuilt their lives; and I am confident we will survive Mr. Bush's reign of amorality.

Even if we faced an economic disaster, a pandemic, the earth-shaking eruption of the Yellowstone "supervolcano" and a mass invasion by some near-future Tamerlane and army, America would survive.

To paraphrase de Tocqueville, America is great because America is good. Recently, we have lost our way, and evil men have been allowed access to government. Places like DU are ample proof that the greatness of America will re-assert itself.

Even if we "retire" Team Bush this fall, the reconstruction is gonna be hard ... do we have what it takes to nurture the glory of goodness, once the evil of vainglory has been turned out of power?
