45. No I think Bush was counting on the Saddam trial to make

Bush look successful-but it will not have that effect now--especially since Iraq is in turmoil. The economy is not going to make an appreciable recovery before November-unfortunately for a lot of us it may get worse. Bush can't run on the economy and by November he will not look like a very good war president.

I stopped watching television a long time ago. It is demoralizing. I agree that some people will never wake up, will watch the fake news, will trot off to the fake Christian Churches to listen to a pinky-ringed preacher teach hate--I don't expect them to change. They have basically become like cult members. They have dulled their brains to achieve a sense of belonging. However I am seeing a lot of other people changing their minds and hearing them voice their doubts.

While it may take a majority of electoral votes to get in power, it only takes a minority to convince that majority how to vote-but that cuts two ways.

The Republican right got where it is not because they were a majority but because they were an aggressive and opportunistic minority. I am definitely concerned about their taking over so many state legislatures and there slimy re-districting conspiracies.

In the 1960s I lived in a community in NYC where the ultra right wing John Birch Society was becoming a dominant political force. They did all the ugly things the far right does today. These movements don't die out-they ebb and flow and there is always the danger of a complete takeover.

I agree that we are in danger-but I am more hopeful now than I was a year ago. A year ago Condolezza Rice told her lie about "no one could have known" about 9/11 and she got away with it. Last week she backed down on that statement-wants to retract.

I know we have been on the defensive a long time, but I believe that the momentum is now with us-we are that aggressive minority-and that it is time to start acting like winners.
