8. Louise Slaughter.
28th District of New York.

I had the pleasure to see her speak as a high school student... She talked about how she got involved in politics because of her love of the environment, of her opposition to NAFTA, and many other things... The bit I remember the most is perhaps a soundbite --- her talking about how being 'tough as nails' is important for her congressional role. In an odd way, her pronounciation really helped that impression -- she is originally from Kentucky, and so that particular way of speaking sounded somewhat unusual in NY --- but she sounded like a trule dedicated person w/a great fighting spirit.

I am unfortunately no longer represented by her ($#*$#*$*# redistricting), and never had a chance to cast a vote for her, but it is still great to see her consistently on the right (well, the left ;-) ) side on crucial votes.
