Even 1/500 sec shutter speed will freeze many props and rotors, and this shot was likely at 1/1000 or 1/2000, no problem for digtal and film SLR's which routinely have shutter speeds up to 1/8000 of a second. Minolta's 9xi boasts a 1/12000 sec fastest speed. The first 35mm SLR with the 1/8000-sec top speed was Nikon's N8008 from 1990 or so.
