I had no idea the balance was due next week - that's kind of outrageous! There is no option to pay the balance over time? Who do they imagine has this kind of money lying around?

But so people are aware, I think you should start a new thread now, don't you? With info about the current total and how much more is needed and what the deadline is. What about travel and living expenses on top of the hospital bill? Is the $50,000 bill just for the surgery, or does it cover his whole stay there including meds, labs, anesth, etc? Will they accept Medicare to cover any of this stuff?
