The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now using temporary guidelines for Safe Air Standards. This is not only for "ambient air" in the great out-of-doors, but the indoor air that each of us and all of our family, friends, and neighbors breathe every day. Believe it or not, although the EPA is supposed to be looking out for your best interests, they aren't. Surprise, surprise!

The EPA's Science Advisory Board is now in the process of reviewing and drafting a toxicity assessment for TCE (trichloroethyylene). Those of you who have read the book "A Civil Action" or watched the movie, are familiar with TCE. It's known as "degreaser fluid" in industry, and is one of the most dangerous contaminates in our environment.

Guess what? Strong lobbies from large industries, including the US military industrial complex (perhaps the single largest source of TCE contamination in the country) are pushing for a enient guideline involving micrograms per cubic meter, than what is conservatively recognized as a threat to "healthy environment" guidelines for humans and other living things.

A coalition of groups is urging the EPA to follow the guidelines proposed by independent scientists, not those on the pay-roll of industry. The coalition is putting a focus on the safety issues involving children.

Please take the time to help us make our voices heard, by signing this online petition to the US EPA Administrator, asking for healthy and reasonable toxicity screening and action levels. The grass-roots group RAGE is hoping to get 6,000 to 10,000 signatures; several other organizations, from NYS to California, are taking part.
