50. You hit the nail on the head!
I've been arguing with a conservative religious fundie acquaintance of mine over the best policy for the country. Most discussions end with me saying, "It's not that black and white."

Recently she replied to me, "Isn't it frightening for you, living in a world with no absolutes?"

Notice I never said there were NO absolutes, but that's what she heard (probably because for her EVERYTHING is an absolute). And she finds uncertainty scary. THAT is what seperates us from conservatives, folks. They are so scared shitless of uncertainty that they will support anyone, anything or any doctrine - religious or political - that shows certainty, no matter how WRONG or IMMORAL is may be in actuality. That's how you get people who condemn abortion because they are "pro life" yet support an unjustified, unnecessary war that's killed over 1300 American troops and countless Iraqis.

As for me, uncertainty doesn't scare me. People who are always certain scare the crap out of me, though.
