It wasn't the case of one "thoughtless" remark.

It was a an adult lifetime of bigotry, malice, venom and lies.

Someone who actively and maliciously tried to lie about a whole class of people, and actively and maliciously tried to make those people's lives worse, deserves no praise.

His bigotry and the activism surrounding that bigotry trumps any running up and down a field he may have done.
