16. Did you ever tried to go out in the street and collect door to door?
I've done it a couple of times for charities and it's very hard. For some weird reason the weather is always terrible. You have to friendly to every person and you need to take a lot of abuse and lies. And worst of all people giving you a cent and then you have to thank them for it and smile.

Then imagine a lot of those Salvation Army workers who have done it for dozens of years, day-in and day-out. Besides collecting, they needed to wash and feed people normal people wouldn't even dream of touching or who are severely mentally ill. They need to show compassion and be friendly to every single person and most of them will.

Take your grievance for the top to the top, because the ordinary worker for the salvation army is full of compassion and you can be sure most people couldn't handle what they have to deal with and they are not doing it for themselves. They are doing it because it is their duty to relieve the suffering on the bottom.

I can only feel humble and small when I see them, because they are doing something I could never do.
