4. Can't go by polls
1. Most national polls (at least the fair ones) reflect the popular vote. Because presidents are chosen by electoral votes, only polling data from the swing states have any relevance.

2. Jesse Ventura was polling in third place the day he won the election for governor of Minnesota. Why? because the media thought he was a joke and who ran the polls? Why, the local media, of course. I recall watching the returns on TV and the talking heads were actually laughing when they announced Jesse had won.

3. I think the only true value polls have is in demoralizing the supporters of the underdog and possibly encouraging undecided voters to vote for the front runner because the perception is he is going to win anyway.

Just my $.02 worth! :-)
