Atta got Barman ransom money?

A senior official in Andhra Pradesh Police has said that the Dawood Ibrahim gang had routed a huge amount of ransom money to New York through Dubai and Pakistan and it was used by Mohammed Atta, the leader of the September 11 terrorist operation in the United States.

Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) A Shivshankar in a presentation to the State-level police officers said that Dawood Ibrahim gang had extorted a ransom Rs 3 crore from the family of Kolkata-based businessman Partha Roy Burman for his release and the money was sent to Dubai through the hawala channel.

Later, the money reached Pakistan where Dawood Ibrahim has taken shelter, and finally Atta reeived it, said Shivshankar, referring to the series of investigations taken by different agencies into the kidnap of the Kolkata businessman. Mohammed Atta, Americans say, led the 19 people team which attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The police official, speaking in the presence of the Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu and the State Home Minister T Devender Goud said that Dawood's gang used Hyderabad as the safe heaven for this entire operation. Partha Roy Burman, the chairman of The khadims Group, was kidnapped by the D-company from Kolkata on June 25 last year and was brought to Hyderabad, Sivashankar said.

It was in Hyderabad that the family paid Rs 3 crore to the gang and Burman was released. The transaction came to light after four people including a Dawood Ibrahim aide Abdul Kareem alias Kareem Dollar were arrested in Hyderabad in August last.
