Yes, I too held the arm of a woman in tears making a painful decision and was called a whore, a tramp and a murderer for doing so. It's gut-wrenching.

But I'm lucky in that the overwhelming majority of women I escorted were confident and empowered by their decision. They ran the guantlet with great dignity and class. Those who were in great pain were always very thankful for our efforts.

To anybody wondering if clinic escorting is right for them, I can only say "YES!". You can really make a difference to a fellow human at a very difficult time, and you can piss off the fundie right at the same time. Does it get any better?
