And the plot thickens in South Dakota

Previously SD already had a hotly contested campaign for Senator with Daschle's re-election campaign. Now they are probably going to have a statewide race for their House seat too. That's right, SD only has the population for one seat. And their Republican representative is about to be charged with (probably) 2nd degree manslaughter.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Aug. 20 — U.S. Rep. Bill Janklow was driving between 70 and 75 mph when he ran a stop sign and collided with a motorcycle, killing the biker, according to an accident report released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The speed limit on the road is 55 mph.

THE REPORT increases the likelihood of prosecutors’ bringing criminal charges against the former four-term governor, who has exerted enormous political power in South Dakota politics for nearly 30 years.
A motorcycle driven by Randolph E. Scott of Hardwick, Minn., collided with Janklow’s Cadillac, which spun around and ended up in a ditch at the edge of a soybean field after the crash.
Prosecutor William Ellingson has said he would decide whether to file charges against Janklow after the release of the report.
According to the report, Janklow said there was a vehicle in his lane and that he had to swerve around it. However, no other vehicles are listed in the report.
The report also says neither man had been drinking.
