A Daphne woman, whose son died in Iraq last year when a helicopter tire he was inflating exploded, continued Friday to lash out at what she called the U.S. military's incompetence and lack of leadership.

The still-grieving mother called for a Congressional investigation into what she described as a system with little control or oversight in safety measures and procedures.

Spc. Paul J. Bueche, 19, was killed and another soldier lost both of his arms when a Blackhawk helicopter tire exploded as it was being inflated.

According to a report issued months after the accident, it was determined that Bueche was encouraged by his superiors to use the wrong kind of equipment to inflate the tire.

Maria also said:

The unit was "ill-prepared, ill-equipped and ill-advised" in its attempts to maintain the equipment, Maria Bueche said.

Not only did her son's death demonstrate this lack of leadership, she said, but also a "lack of compassion."

change a tire and lose your arms

change a tire and die - at 19 - before you even had a taste of adult life

blood for oil and lies
