18. You don't believe in the separation of church and state?
The state can't dictate who a church must marry. While I support the idea of gay marriage, I do not believe people have a right to force any church to go against it's conscience by methods of financial coersion. There will be plenty of churches who will be performing gay marriages. Why would anyone want to be married in one which had been forced to comply?
In addition to that many people who are not married in a church still prefer to be considered "married". I don't think they will appreciate you telling them they now have a civil union.
