. . .
CBC and CBC/CTV selectively slammed Condoleeza Rice for her performance at the 9/11 hearings, and as the Security Adviser to the President of the United States.
Unlike most other Newscasters, CBC would cut off a clip right after Condi made her statement/answer, and cut off her blathering explanations/excuses and rationalizations, then make their observations.
I should note that both CBC and CBC/CTV showed the hearings in their entirety live, and CPAC, the TV channel that covers our Ministers, and Prime ministers antics in the House of Commons/Parliament showed the hearings in it's entirety about an hour delayed.
One of the commentators was Henry Champ, and some of the following comments were his, but I'm not sure which.
Comments included the following:
"On balance, Dr. Rice's performance has not helped the President"
"I would say that the "force Du hour" was the commissions demand to declassify the controversial PDB."
"When Miss Rice was asked by the Commission if the board came up with recommendations would She and the President fight for them(in Congress?) and she replied "of course" - BUT, then she backtracked saying "well, we'd have to look at them first to see if we agreed with them"
A BBC commentator made references to Condi's testimony as "very clever and prepared" and her responses were "more questions than answers"
A British citizen interviewed said of Condi "That was her job, if you are not good enough, you make mistakes, so you take the responsibility."
On CBC NewsWorld the Commentator said that after hearing what Condi had to say he was convinced that "The United States was effectively blind to what was going on" - he continued
"These are telling moments, the information WAS in their hands."
He also stated that "her answers to alot of the questions were not substantial"
I'm not sure quite what he meant by this, but in referring to Condi's performance as the Security Adviser he said something to the effect " ... but she did her job more like a traffic cop, she just never rolled up her sleeves"
He also made note of the fact that " . . while Richard Clarke was assertive and aggressive, Miss Rice was mostly on the defensive"
Another commentator stated "Condoleeza Rice testified that there was nothing they could have done to prevent the attack, but when she was asked (here they went to a clip - from the hearing where the commissioner asked)
"DO you remember the title on that particular P D B?"
Condi replied "I believe it was called "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States""
The commentator cut the clip and went on to other news . .
OK -
that' this Canuk's Condi diary for today!
