President Obama's approval rating fell a dramatic 8 percentage points in about two months, sliding from 50% at the beginning of June to 42% now, a Gallup poll has found. One need look no further than the latest economic news for the reasons. Incomes are virtually flat, and consumer spending - which typically drives a recovery (what recovery?) is down.

Meanwhile, Obama lacks the biggest weapon that helped get him elected in the first place: Hope.
