Senate Majority leader Harry Reid is an American hero

Excerpt:

In a political environment in which vitriol is substituted for reason and honest debate, one in which politicians vote, not their conscience, or what they believe would best help their country, but instead vote for what they believe will help them get re-elected, Senator Harry Reid (D), Nevada is an American hero. He chose real health care reform, reform that would move the country forward, over his own political career.

In the latest polls, Nevada Republican Sue Lowden leads Senator Reid 47% to 37% in statewide polls. Lowden's solution for the nation's health care woes is to return to the barter system. If you can't afford medical care, she suggests you could take a chicken with you and trade it for a physician's services. If she wins Harry Reid's seat in Nevada, it's easy to envision the mass exodus of physicians from that state.

(see article for video of Lowden's chicken for health care proposal)

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid stood his ground and fought for health care reform despite the ugly rhetoric that was spiraling into vitriol at tea party town hall meetings.

Today, elected officials on both sides of the aisle have failed their constituents quietly and implicitly by seeking nothing more than another term in Washington. Senate Majority leader, Harry Reid is a rare political hero for our time.
