Casey is a paleoliberal (FDR type, pre-1960's) Red Dog Democrat, whose economic liberalism (pro-labor, pro-civil rights, pro-woman, contrary to popular belief) makes his social conservatism a bit more palatable to all but the extreme left. He fought to hold the corporate crooks accountable; to give the have-nots a bit more; to expose the waste and fraud of Ridge's administration; etc. Casey would win the Dems who would otherwise vote Repuke.

I can't see why single-issue pro-choice voters would dismiss Casey out of hand as a reactionary when his ideas actually would lift the poor out of poverty and give them a chance to make a decent living.
