Court reinstates Pinochet judge

AS doctors told General Augusto Pinochet to remain hospitalised for treatment of respiratory problems, a court today reinstated a judge seeking to try the former dictator on human rights charges.

Mr Guzman, a member of the same Santiago court, has been preparing to try Pinochet and had scheduled to question him, after the Supreme Court last month stripped the general of the immunity he enjoyed as former president.

Reinstated in the case after eight days, Mr Guzman will now have to wait for Pinochet to be released from the hospital to question him.

Mr Guzman is investigating the so-called "Operation Condor" - a plan by South American military dictatorships to eliminate dissidents.
