you know, i never thought of my step grandmother as a bigot but one day (when I was 10) she reacted to something on the news by saying, "Hitler should have finished them off the first time..."

that was almost 30 years ago now and it was a shock and i was the one she was talking to! :wtf:

of course based on her overall statements by that time, she didn't fit the pattern of bigotry --but within years she was a Pat Buchanan, immigrant hating bigot. she didn't become one later, she was when she made that first statement.

maybe he doesn't fit your definition of a bigot, but i'm concerned about any motivation to explain it away or diminish its significance.
