I read this article on the (for lack of a better term) lightening up of Iranian culture and how they're leaving behind some of the rigors of traditionalist Islamic life for a more westernized version of Iranian life since the revolution. This is further evidence of my theory (I'm sure that I didn't invent it) that the best way to normalize relations with a country is to make them your buddy and partner in every way possible. Engaging them economically, socially, and culturally will show people how great it is to govern yourself and to be free. Note I left out engaging them militarily which is the Bush plan. Al-Qaeda and the Taliban might hate freedom, but if their people don't want to subscribe to that view because they're busy hanging out in cafes then where is terrorist support going to come from?
