4. Gephardt is a dead end
He'll neither inspire voters nor be able to combat Bush effectively after a lifetime of cozy political accomodation of Republicans.

I'm sure Dick's a nice enough fella with his heart in the right place. But as a presence he's cut from Mondale-Dukakis cloth, and would fare just as well.
