"Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

I'm no civil-rights attorney, but...

Did they have a warrant for searching the school grounds/lockers issued from a judge based on the probable cause they cited?

If not, or if it was invited/consensual via the Principle, they still cannot detain and search the children without warrants for each child's person and property (backpacks).

If they can do this, they can go into a mall and have every patron lined up and searched at gun-point just for being there that day. (Never mind for the moment that Wal-Mart already does at their exits, sans guns)

Throwing this sort of "net" around a group of people to make their "job" easier screams totalitarianism and is wholly unconstitutional if you place any value whatsoever on the what and why the bill of rights was penned.

Apparently we as a nation no longer value these rights, we fuss here and there but most submit to authority out of fear.
