Some leftie group (I forget which one) sued to have Texas' electoral votes disqualified. The Constitution says that the Pres. and the VP can, in fact, be from the same state, but if they are, that state can't give its electoral votes to either candidate. If this rule had been properly applied, Gore would have won.

If I remember correctly, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled that Cheney was a resident of Wyoming. Case closed. The SCOTUS had already anointed Bush at that stage. No point appealing to them. Cheney was pretty obviously a resident of Texas, and the Constitution clearly dictated that Texas could not give its electoral votes to Bush if he and Cheney resided in the same state, but it was a lost cause from the beginning. The SCOTUS had already chosen the pResident for us.
