A group of anti-war protesters was arrested after trying to hold a candlelight vigil on the Strip to mark the second anniversary of the war in Iraq, authorities said.

Police said at least nine demonstrators were arrested Saturday night outside the Bellagio. But protesters claimed 25 arrests were made after they defied an order to disperse because they did not have a permit.

Police Lt. Steven Herpolsceimer said the arrests came after 40 to 50 protesters gathered outside the Bellagio and some began running into the street.

Suspects were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and being a pedestrian in the roadway, he said.
