Jessica Lynch, the US soldier seized from an Iraqi hospital in a dramatic rescue by special operations forces, fought off Iraqi troops before her capture, shooting several until her ammunition ran out, the Washington Post reported today.

Lynch "continued firing at the Iraqis even after she sustained multiple gunshot wounds and watched several other soldiers in her unit die around her in fighting March 23," the Post reported, citing a US official.

The 19-year-old supply clerk rescued late Tuesday from a hospital in southern Iraq after US authorities received a tipoff she was being held there, "fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers ... firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition," the Post said, citing US officials.
