I believe it was in August, but in Kansas City there was a vote before the people on whether or not to increase the car rental and hotel tax in order to finance a new downtown arena. There was widespread community support, but tons of negative ads run by a group against the arena. Further investigation revealed that the opposition group was being run by FleisHill and funded by Enterprise Rental Car. The kicker is that a few nights before the vote, a former Kansas City Kings basketball player went on the news to say that he had been contacted by FleisHill and offered a bribe to come out against the arena. They flatly denied it, but he had the numbers on caller ID and were more than happy to show to the news camera. He was pissed because he knew the arena was the best thing for the city and because they had questioned his integrity even by proposing a bribe.

Smaller scale, but me thinks there may be a pattern here......
