That is the telling thing.

It is about 22 hours flying time from the Gulf to the US East coast.

So, they must be leaving in the middle of the night from the ME. Now, how good is that for a bunch of wounded men? Let them rest all day and then when they should be sleeping, they are hauled onto a plane for a long flight.
