Senators Dick Lugar and Joe Biden, like Bob McNamara and Dean Rusk a generation ago, are calling for an escalation of the war in Iraq.

From a legal point of view, Iraq never surrendered after we took over the country. There was no surrender document signed, no ceremony as the one that took place on the USS Missouri on VJ Day.

A technical state of war still exists. However, there is no Iraqi army facing our troops, only the Iraqi people. I fear that our thirst for revenge, to pay back their revenge for our previous revenge, will only precipitate a nationwide intifada.

Like Dennis Kucinich says, bring the troops home!
