66. "IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE", by Sinclair Lewis. Have you ever read it?

I am reading this perpetually topical example of timeless literature now. The book was originally published in 1935. The story is more or less about how a group with similar goals as the "Tea Baggers" win the presidency, and with their own militia take over the country. Pretty scary stuff. Read the book, or read about it at amazon, for example.

Fascism certainly can happen here...
