Sex education is not about teaching kids how to have sex. Millions of years of evolution have taken care of that. You could go without telling young people how all the stuff below the belt works, and they would still figure out how to bump those uglies. Once the hormones start going the drive will take over.

What sex education is REALLY about is having the ability to make INFORMED CHOICES once you understand your own biology. Young people need to know that there are STD's -- they need to know that 'pulling out' is NOT an effective means of birth control.

Sex education is empowerment for young people, especially women who literally carry most of the burden.

On edit: Age appropriate sex education is also the best defense against sexual abuse of children (an appropriate topic to bring up at this time) -- again, its about empowerment. Ignorance helps no one.
