A Democrat has been in Kennedy's seat since 1952.

The last time Massachusetts elected a Republican Senator was 1972, and that was Brooke, the first African American Senator since Reconstruction.

Registered voters in Massachusetts outnumber registered Republicans 3 to 1.

Most of Massachusetts's population is centered around Greater Boston, the mmost Democratic area. Turnout in the suburbs far exceeded turnout in Boston.

The conclusion that Democrats stayed home is almost inescapable.

Regardless of what they may say aloud, I hope national Democrats get the correct message. This was not about Massachusetts going right. It was about Democrats staying home.
